About

I have been in the wine industry either part or full-time for the last 25 years. As a young stay-at-home mom, I did in-store promotions on weekends and I developed an insatiable curiosity for all the facets of the wine industry when I sat in on some of Cape Wine Academy‘s Diploma Level lectures. This prompted me to begin my own studies and I have been learning about wine ever since. Someone once asked me how much I know about wine, my answer remains the same today: “I know enough about wine to know that I know next to nothing.”

What I do know is that I love taking people on tours through the magical vineyards in the Western Cape. There are so many to choose from and so little time…

When you come on a tour with me, you will be treated to interesting out-of-the-classroom lessons and discussions which may include geography, history, science, politics, philosophy, sociology and art, not to mention an introduction to the myriad culinary delights that this part of the world has to offer!

I have been touring with Kim every year for 10 years now (2008-2018) and I think  she is the most knowledgeable, resourceful and pleasant guide you could find.

The story of how we met is a long-ish and amusing one, involving falling into conversation with Kim’s mother in the bar of the much-missed Salt restaurant in Bantry Bay, but suffice to say, it was the best thing among many good things to come out of my first visit to Cape Town.

Firstly Kim’s knowledge of Cape wine is encyclopaedic, secondly although Zimbabwe-born she is a longtime Western Cape native; and both of these come through in her ability to find wineries & other spots that are not always the obvious ones, but unfailingly deliver unique insider experiences.

In addition Kim is a thoughtful, charming & creative person with a gift for offering a sane & humorous, as well as downright erudite take on every topic, not restricted to the delights of landscape & wildlife on view.

Finally she is a very directed & organised tour planner who only needs a sketch of one’s priorities to come up with an inspired & logical schedule.

We met Kim for the 1st time when she became our guide through the Winelands of Stellenbosch. Friends of a friend, referred her to us & we couldn’t have been more pleased!

We are wine aficionados from the United States — wine is our hobby & our passion.

Before we even arrived in South Africa, Kim reached out to us to inquire as to our needs & wants. After several emails, Kim managed to create a schedule that was PERFECT for us! We spent the entire day together visiting top-notch wineries; drinking wonderful wines, eating amazing foods & taking in stunning views! It was truly a fantastic day. Kim’s easy-going personality along with her extensive wine knowledge helped create a day that we will always remember.

Kim is extremely knowledgeable about wine and takes the trouble to listen to one’s interests and needs. Despite her impressive knowledge, she is not at all a wine snob – really important in dealing with people of all levels of knowledge about wine.

I did a tour with her with my 22 year old daughter and a friend of hers – and she could relate well to them – as well as dealing with an “older hand” like me.

She is also known at a number of estates, so we ended up getting a bit of special treatment.

Kim should be/deserves to be – a big success at conducting wine tours. We’re planning on using her services again soon.

Sincerely

Neale
